Safe drinking levels per week, are 21 units for males and 14 for females.       
Despite popular belief, alcohol is a depressant drug.

THE LAW

Alcohol is not an illegal drug but it is a drug all the same. The results of misuse are no different from other drugs and the effects can be just as devastating for the misuser and their family and friends alike.
 
It's illegal for under 18's to buy or be bought alcohol, but 16-17 year olds can drink alcohol with a meal in a restaurant.

  • Intoxication
  • Slurred speech
  • Staggering gait
  • Excessive merriment
  • Aggression or violence
  • Depending on the individual
  • Loss of coordination/consciousness/inhibitions
  • Blurred vision
  • Vomiting

 

DANGERS/RISKS

  • Damage to liver, kidneys, pancreas when used frequently and to excess
  • Memory impairment
  • Destruction of brain cells
  • Addiction (alcoholism)
  • Driving is dangerous, and illegal when under the influence
  • Succeptibility to injury, robbery, rape while intoxicated
